Just when you thought Italy could not offer another beautiful region after places like Tuscany and Umbria, you then feast your eyes on Piedmont (or “Piemonte” in Italian). Although it may not be as well known, this region will surprise you and will offer the pleasure of a warm welcome. Piedmont has a diverse landscape. Some areas are enveloped by majestic Alps, others are adorned with rolling hills and blanketed in wine vineyards. Piedmont is also close to the Liguria region, which offers a sparkling seascape.

It can be argued that Piedmont was officially put on the touristic map because of its famous Barolo and Barbera wines and delicious white truffles of Alba. So why not take a wine tour to find out what everyone is talking about? Piedmont is also well known for its delectable chocolate, being the ‘protector’ of the mystical Holy Shroud of Turin (believed by many to be the cloth placed on Jesus’ body at the time of his burial), hosting the 2006 Winter Olympics, being the headquarters of automobile manufacturer, Fiat and the birthplace of Lavazza coffee.

Despite its industrial routes, Turin (Piedmont’s capital) offers visitors an experience of a cosmopolitan and chic city. It is a cultural and very vibrant city that will amaze you. What was once the capital of the Duchy of Savoy and home of the Royal Savoy residences, Turin is dominated by elegant palaces, elaborate cafe’s that are centuries old and boasts stunning Baroque architecture. In fact, the Savoy family summoned the most important artists of the time during their reign.

Visitors will enjoy strolling through the wide pedestrian walkways with 18km of arcades lining the city centre. And Turin does not fall short of museums or theatres...The Egyptian Museum of Turin is said to have one of the largest collections of Egyptian antiquities outside of Egypt, the National Museum of Cinema is believed to be the tallest museum in the world (167 meters or 548 feet), the Museum of Oriental Art houses one of the most important collections of Asian art in Italy and the Teatro Regio is a prominent opera house.

Piedmont is definitely a place to be discovered and enjoyed!
